A votive tablet is a wooden board dedicated to a shrine or temple when you make a wish or when you make a wish and appreciate it.
Write the following on the unpainted side:

絵馬の書き方は、絵が書かれていない方の面に、①お願いしたいこと ②自分の名前 ③生年月日 ④住所 を記載することが望ましいとされています。生年月日や住所は、個人情報になるので注意が必要ですが、神社やお寺によっては目隠し用のシールが設置されているところもあるようですので、ご活用ください。

絵馬の起源についてですが、昔は生きた馬を神馬（しんめ・じんめ）として神に捧げる習慣があったとされています。
それは、馬は神が乗る神聖なものと考えられていたからです。やがて、生きた馬の代わりに、板に馬の絵を描いて奉納するようになりました。
現在は、「家内安全」「恋愛成就」「合格祈願」などの願い事を絵馬に書き、奉納するのが一般的になってきました。書いた絵馬は、『絵馬掛所』に掛けて奉納しましょう。持ち帰ることはあまり推奨していませんが、その場合は、神棚や床の間に置くようにしましょう。
