神楽とは、神様を祀るために奏する歌舞です。
神社の祭礼などで行われますが、まれにお寺で行っているところもあります。
神社の敷地の中に、神楽殿（楽殿）がある場合はそこで行われることが多いです。
Kagura is a dance performed to worship God.
It takes place at a festival at the shrine.
It is sometimes done in temples.
If there is a Kagura hall on the grounds of the shrine, it is often held there.
神楽の語源は、神座（Kamukura:かむくら）に由来すると言われています。神座とは、「神の宿るところ」という意味があり、神聖な場所と考えられており、神座に神々を降ろして、巫女が人々の戲れを祓ったり、神懸かりして人々と交流していたとされています。そのような歌舞が神楽とよばれるようになったとされています。
The word Kagura is said to come from (Kamukura). Kamukura means “the place where the god lives” and is said to be a sacred place. The gods come down to Kagura and the shrine maidens worship people’s mistakes. It seems that such a dance has come to be called Kagura.
